Craig Smoove (aka Craig Donahue) began his journey to the top of the San Diego DJ scene after a chance encounter a week after moving cross-country from Boston to the west coast. Wandering downtown in October of 2004, he happened into the Red C Lounge for a pint where he struck up a conversation with the DJ, Mikey Beats. The two compared notes on equipment and inspirations, exchanged numbers and a friendship was struck. Before that, Smoove had been DJ’ing for about five years in the Boston area, starting by crashing house parties with turntables in records in hand, entertaining the college set with a mix of house, trance, progressive tracks, before moving on to a hip-hop heavy rotation. He got his first shot spinning at a club called Tantra rapidly began booking gigs at larger venues in the Boston area. In 2004 Smoove relocated to San Diego, where he met up with Beats and started building his rep on the west coast. Starting small and spinning a mix of party rock, hip hop, electro, rock and roll and everything in between, he opened up for Beats and other local DJs, eventually working his way into gigs at SD’s largest clubs, including Hard Rock, Stingaree and Ivy. March of 2008 marked his joining forces with San Diego’s premier promotion company DJHere Productions and thus ensued Smoove’s first major CD release, called Smoove Shots (an electro clash mix), and became an instant classic. The CD brought more recognition and soon Smoove was given his first opportunity on the international DJ scene, flying across the pond to the United Kingdom for a 3-night stretch of shows and producing his second CD From London with Love (a sampling of rock and roll hits spanning the past 40 years). His third major release, Craig Smoove’s Choices, was released in the spring of ‘09. The album is an electro indie house adventure that highlights some of his favorite tracks to play. Part Duex was his fourth released mix and dropped on New Years Eve 2010 and quickly became a crowd favorite. Now set to release is the DJHere Productions 10 Year Anniversary CD. This mix is a collaboration with Alex Dreamz and Smoove, adding a half each of music that’s sure to get the dance floor rocking.
