Welcome to the iClub.fm Top 10 Dubstep Artists of 2011! It has certainly been a great year for Dubstep, with not only a ton of awesome new Dubstep tracks and artists emerging from every corner of the globe, but also with the genre's first recognitions by major players in the music industry with multiple Grammy nominations of Dubstep artists. Our Dubstep podcast continues to be the most downloaded show in the iClub network, receiving over half-a-million downloads in a little over 6 months. We would love to share our expertise in the realm of Dubstep with you, by making a ranking of some of our favorite artists of last year. Below is our list, and while they are ranked by number, in many ways all these artists deserve to have the title 'top ten' rather than specific number rankings. It was very difficult to place everyone in the right spot, and there may be a few in there you might not agree with, however this should be a fairly accurate 'Top 10 Dubstep Artists of 2011' If you get stoked on top 10 lists, you may also wanna check out our 'Greatest House Music Songs of All Time' article.Enjoy!
1. Skrillex - Coming in first based on a number of factors including: the amount of Facebook Fans (2.5 million) | 5 Grammy nominations including "Best New Artist" and "Best EDM Artist" | and out personal opinion on his Dubstep production. Skrillex has been one of the main forces behind the further mainstreaming of Dubstep and for that we give him the title of Best Dubstep Artist of 2011.
2. Nero - Coming in with more than 650,000 facebook fans, Nero is undoubtedly one of the pioneer duos of "Progressive Dubstep" and this year released their Massive album, "Welcome to Reality." One of the best Dubstep production teams in the game, and the only reason we didn't place Nero at #1 is because of the massive fan-base and Grammy nods Skrillex has mastered.
3. Chase & Status - Blind Faith, Blind Faith, and a little more Blind Faith puts Chase & Status 4th on the list. Known more for their D&B tracks, this year Chase & Status had a go at Dubstep and the result was some really amazing music. Arguably one of the best and most inspiring Dubstep tracks of 2011, not to mention their other solid tracks such as Flashing Lights. Amazing sounds, over 700,000 Facebook Fans, they deserve at least 3rd on our list, if not higher.
4. Bassnectar - Swoops at 4th in scraping over 700,000 Facebook Fans. Bassnectar's would have been much higher if this was last year's top Dubstep list, however in our opinion there were many new Dubstep artists that brought a little more to the table this year. Regardless, Bassnectar is a giant name in Dubstep, and deserves to make the top 10 list.
5. Flux Pavilion - In 5th place we have Flux Pavilion racking in 435,000 fans. Famous for their track, "I Can't Stop" as well as their remix of DJ Fresh's "Gold Dust" in 2010, Flux Pavilion have continued to release solid, hard-hitting Dubstep in 2011 including their remix of Example - Midnight Run, which we featured here on iClub.fm on iClub: DUB. Sure to release more bangers in the future, Flux Pavilion makes our list in 6th place this year,
6. Modestep - Harboring 170,000 Facebook Fans, Modestep is blasting through the Dubstep charts like seasoned veterans. Two of their 2011 releases, "Feel Good" and "Sunlight," were UKF's first and second most listened to releases this year on YouTube, bringing in a whopping 19 million views combined. For their UKF numbers alone we had to place Modestep in our top ten list.
7. Zeds Dead - On this list for not only being a great breakout Dubstep and Electro artist of 2010/2011, but also for their remix of Blue Foundations 'Eyes on Fire' (released 2010) receiving the most downloads of any release on the UKF dubstep channel. I know that technically doesn't count for 2011, but it does have some weight in placing Zeds Dead into this list. We look forward to more releases from Zeds Dead. Did we mention they are from Canada? Awesome to see some Dubstep talent outside of the UK eah? Oh, and 148,000 fans isn't too shabby either.
8. Feed Me - Fresh off the support of Deadmau5's Mau5trap label for his crazy-awesome electro Album "Feed Me's Big Adventure" Feed Me has been experimenting with Dubstep, and the result has been some sickkkkkk beats and over 130,000 facebook fans as well. Obviously a great producer no matter the BPM, and we hope to see some more wobble bass in the future productions of Feed Me.
9. Cutline - With just over 20,000 fans on Facebook, Cutline are not as discovered as they should be. We have been playing Cutline originals and Remixes all year on iClub: Dub and so we had to throw their name into our top 10. Surprising that their fanbase is so small, it could be because they are just emerging into the Dubstep arena, however I believe they will have a strong 2012 given that they already have such a great sound, they just need to get it out to the masses.
10. Xilent - A little guy when comparing his 12,000 Fans on Facebook to the other artists on this list, however don't underestimate the name of Xilent based on his relatively low social media ranking. He makes our list as one of the emerging Dubstep artists to watch out for in 2012 after absolutely murdering two different remakes of his own D&B productions, "Skyward II" and "Choose Me." This is a case where our personal opinion is going to weigh in a bit and name Xilent on our list. Skyward II is a BEAST of a track, and we are impatiently waiting to hear what comes next from this kid!
Honorable Additions
Many of these are artists we added on based on our feedback from you. Some of them slipped our mind when we made this list, or just didn't quite make the top 10, but are still great artists that any New Dubstepper should know about. That about does it for our list of the top Dubstep producers of 2011, however if you liked this article there's a good chance you will also enjoy our list of the 'Greatest House Music Songs of All Time.'
